A House on the Bayou is about a couple who want to reconcile and save their relationship. To this end, they decide to take a vacation in a place that will change their life forever. This horror movie has a lot of scary moments, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. This explains the ending of A House on the Bayou as we break down the movie’s final moments.
A house in the bay plot
John Chambers is a professor who is having an affair with one of his students. One day his wife Jessica finds out about it and confronts him with it. She even shows him evidence and John admits the guilt. However, Jessica does not want the relationship to end for the good of their daughter.
The couple decides to vacation in the house on the bayou. Since she is a real estate agent, the owner of the house decides to let her have it so they can film it. When the couple arrives at the house, bizarre things happen.
Their plan of reconciliation does not work because they are both still grumpy with one another. However, her daughter befriends a boy named Isaac while she goes outside with her father. In addition, John receives a note from a mysterious old man stating that they are being watched around the house.
When the father-daughter duo arrives at the house, Jessica gets mad at John for not bringing veal with him. Isaac storms to the door and invites Jessica over to his home for veal. His grandmother arrives with Isaac, which sets the chain of events in motion.
What was Isaac’s real identity?
John didn’t want to leave Vivienne because he still loved her, but he didn’t want to leave Jessica for her daughter either. So he hired Isaac, a contract killer, to kill his wife. What he didn’t know was that Isaac was a devil, not a hit man.
Isaac believed himself to be a judge who punished people for their sins. He concluded that John had committed the crime of cheating on his wife and devising a plan to kill her. For him the house was a courtroom in which he would practice his justice.
He revealed Jessica John’s intentions with the relationship with Vivienne. Isaac then locked John in an empty room and left Coyote with him, who ate him up. That ended the punishment for John. But he didn’t stop.
The next thing he did was bring Vivienne into the house to punish her for getting into a relationship with a married man. He forced Jessica to burn Vivienne in the car, and nothing more could the helpless woman do. After losing her husband, she now had to save her life and that of her daughter.
The End of A House on the Bayou – Did the Devil Exist?
Jessica shoots Isaac and tells him that if he was righteous, God would ensure his survival. Isaac told Jessica all about how he and his grandfather brought sinners into the house to punish them. Jessica escapes from the crime scene with her daughter.
The next day, she turned to the police to investigate the house, but no house was seen when they got there. The officer explained to Jessica that they knew about Isaac and how he punished sinners. They let her go because the duo wanted to get rid of the culprits.
In the final scene we see Anna’s nose bleeding, possibly from the presence of Isaac who was likely a demon. However, it is inexplicable, and left to the discretion of the viewer, to conclude that Isaac was a demon and not just a normal human.
